2007 PAM SAUNDERS CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

Towering red rocks and crystal-blue Colorado skies greeted golfers at the Fourth Annual Pam Saunders Charity Golf Tournament, held June 18 at Arrowhead Golf Club, southwest of Denver.

Nearly 100 participants turned out to play golf, wonder at the scenery and raise money to benefit the Lorenzen Cancer Foundation for pancreatic cancer research and awareness.

Golfers were greeted with a hearty breakfast before setting out to battle Arrowhead, a course as difficult as it is breathtaking. The slick and severely sloped 12th green made even those with low handicaps wondering if they were actually competing at the U.S. Open at Oakmont.

Denver-area media have always been a majority contributor to the event, and that tradition continued this year. And for the second consecutive year, the team from KHOW radio - featuring Dan Caplis, Craig Silverman, Tal Filholm and Harry King - captured the Media Cup Challenge. The silver cup will adorn the KHOW studio for this year till we award it to a new champion.

Team KHOW, however, failed to repeat as overall champion. It was captured by the foursome of Scott Nelson, Steve Rodriguez, Dave Melton and Steve Jones. The two teams tied for the lead with 9-under par 61s, but Scott Nelson's team won the title in a tie-breaker. Congratulations!

Even those who didn't fare so well on the golf course, received golfer gifts and prizes and still enjoyed a memorable day. Golfers bid on a wide array of silent auction items, ranging from golf packages to fine-dining packages. As always, the popular Tiffany-blue mystery "Grab Bags" went quickly.

A special touch this year was the Shotmakers Photography custom foursome photograph each golfer received to commemorate their day at Arrowhead.

The event, held in loving memory of Pam Saunders who lost her brave, two-year battle against pancreatic cancer, was filled with joy that would have made Pam smile. We would like to thank all of those who participated in the Fourth Annual Pam Saunders Charity Golf Tournament. And a very special thanks goes out to all of our sponsors and volunteers.

Please join us on November 17, 2007 for the Pam Saunders Charity Gala at the El Jebel Shrine Center. We will dance the night away to the music of the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra as we honor Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

What a thrill to play the majestic course at the Arrowhead Golf Club in Littleton.
The "Oooh & Aaah" factor of the scenery may have been a handicap for some golfers.
